Getting to and from Jersey

By Air

If you are travelling to Jersey from within the Common Travel Area (CTA - UK, Ireland, Isle of Man, Guernsey and Jersey) you do not need a passport, but most airlines do require you to show a valid photo ID before boarding (valid forms of identification include passport, driving licence, photographic disabled badge, student ID card, armed forces ID card or citizen card). All European Union (EU) and European Economic Area (EEA) nationals must present a valid passport or identity card at immigration control upon arrival in Jersey. No visas are required for EU or EEA nationals. All non-UK, EU, EEA nationals must present a valid passport upon arrival and must check on visa requirements specific to their country of origin before travel to Jersey.

The distance from the airport to St. Helier is approximately 5 miles. Transport options into town include bus, taxi or car rental.

When departing Jersey Airport, check-in opens 2 to 3 hours prior to flight time, depending on the airline, and closes approximately 45 minutes before flight time. Most airlines provide an online check-in service, but you can check in at the airport, too.

There is a small coffee shop on the landside of the airport before security and a cafe/bar, plus duty free beyond. Should you wish to shop before you board there are also a number of shops including WH Smith, Jersey Pottery and La Mare Wine Estate, World Duty Free and Jersey Pearl.

Airlines that operate scheduled services to and from Jersey include:

  • Air Lingus – Regular flights Dublin and Cork

By Sea

If you are travelling by ferry to Jersey from the CTA you do not need a passport, but most ferry companies do require you to show a valid photo ID before boarding (valid forms of identification include passport, driving licence, or citizen card). If you are travelling by ferry from France a passport or national identity card will be required.

Check-in time is usually an hour prior to departure if you are travelling with your car and 45 minutes if you are a foot passenger but do check with the company before you travel, just in case.

Companies that operate scheduled ferry services to and from Jersey are:

  • Condor Ferries - Operates high-speed and traditional ferries to and from Poole, Portsmouth and St Malo
  • Manche Îles Express - French company that operates a passenger-only ferry service during the summer between Guernsey, Sark and Barneville-Carteret and Granville, both in France

There are two ferry terminals in Jersey: Albert Terminal and Elizabeth Terminal. As a result, while they are very close to each other, it is advisable that you check your ticket or with your travel agent to determine which terminal it is that you are travelling to and from.

Albert Terminal generally serves passengers on Manche Îles Express ferries and its facilities include a café, drinks machine and cash machines.

Elizabeth Terminal generally serves passengers on Condor Ferries and its facilities include a café, newsagent and gift shop, WiFi and cash machines.
