About this Event

An unmissable evening of bold, locally made cinema at ArtHouse Jersey at Capital House as part of their Summer Performance Series.

Six films. Six distinct voices. One unmissable evening of bold, locally made cinema. This showcase brings together short films supported by ArtHouse Jersey’s Development Grants, exploring themes of identity, care, community, mental health, and belonging. From dark comedy and documentary to intimate drama and thriller, each film offers a unique perspective and a powerful story. The evening concludes with a post-screening Q&A, giving audiences the chance to hear directly from the filmmakers behind the work.

Quicksand was co-written by Jessica Garton and Ted Walliker and the film aims to spark conversations around dementia and highlight the unique challenges faced by loved ones who take on the role of carers.

Swirl State is Jonny Labey’s debut as a film director. The film is based on Jonny’s experiences working in an ice cream van in Jersey and explores mental health, community, toxic masculinity. Winner of Best Actor award at the UK Film Awards.

The Nun Slayer by Harry Green (Shorthand Films) is a love story with a comedic edge that explores themes of the self, toxic masculinity, fame and dysfunctional relationships.

She Fishes by Sabine Gilley showcases a local fisherwoman navigating her way through a male dominated environment. The film was the Winner of Best Documentary at Emerging Talent Film Festival 2025 and last year the film screened at The British Museum where it won Best Documentary.

More Than It Hurts You is a short thriller film by Áine Daly & Jordan Cox, inspired by a personal battle with OCD.

Swim by Lucy Abraham and Molly Byrne, centres three middle-aged women and their relationships to each other and to the sea. ‘Swim’ won the Award For Best Film at the 2025 13th Parish Film Festival.
