Come along to this free talk by Société Jersiaise, presented by Andrew Gilson about the role of tobacco in the German Occupation - alternative currency.

The important role in the revival of tobacco cultivation, after 200 years, in the economy of the Island during the German Occupation. It’s development as a currency in itself and increasing role as main source of income for many islanders. Also, the part of the civil and military authorities in dealing with tobacco cultivation.  Their initial response to tobacco cultivation and then increasing manner the German Military Government and the Jersey States and civil service played in dealing with an alternate economy.
